Description

The Beam Remote Satellite Voice/Data Modem provides remote environments with data / SCADA telecommunications access via the Iridium satellite network. The RST200 presents a DB9 serial data socket to the user, along with visual status information. The modem can also be used with an optional Intelligent handset for voice communications. The RST200 is designed for all remote communications applications for mobile or fixed use. These markets include Maritime, Transport, Defence, Emergency Services, Mining, Construction, Telemetry and Security.

Modem Emulation

The RST200 emulates the functionality of a Hayes compatible modem. It provides a socket for the subscriber to connect a conventional serial RS232 device. The user operates the connected equipment as though using a normal dial-up data service or modem connection. The RST200 provides complete support to all Iridium Voice and Data services as enabled by a certified Iridium Service Provider.

Intelligent Handset Interface

The RST200 supports the use of an optional Beam Intelligent Handset (RST970) for voice calls as well as utilizing the Iridium SMS service. The handset has a full alpha numeric keypad as well as built in ringer and easy use menu functions and display. The handset can be easily located anywhere within a vehicle, vessel or fixed site location. Handset NOT INCLUDED.

Specialized Applications

The RST200 can easily be adapted to be used in conjunction with specialised applications. The Intelligent processor inside the RST200 enables the use of remote commands or polling to retrieve data from the Log Port of the terminal. This functionality can be used in conjunction with SMS and or Short Burst Data (SBD) and can be adapted to various applications such as polling GPS locations or taking reading from remote devices or digital inputs.

Alert / Tracking Interface

The RST200 is capable of supporting the Beam TrackALERT interface. This will support deployment for tracking, monitoring and emergency alert installations. The TrackALERT interfaces are available with inbuilt or external GPS receivers. When used with the TrackALERT interface, the RST200 is fully compliant for the Solas Regulations.

The RST200 provides access to all Iridium voice services, these services include:

A serial interface for PC connection and two way SMS provides access to the following Iridium data services:

• Direct Internet Data 10-12 Kbps

Power Inputs / Backup Battery

The RST terminal is supplied with a universal AC power supply. The unit can also be connected directly to an 11–32V DC input. An optional Beam Battery Backup, can provide 48 hours standby time and 4 hours of talk time. The terminal is also capable of being Solar Powered.

Vehicle Use

The Remote Satellite Modem when used in conjunction with the Intelligent handset can easily be installed into a vehicle or vessel application. The terminal will provide easy access to the compact handset whilst the main terminal can be installed in a secure / out of sight compartment. here is also an optional In-vehicle hands-free kit available for the RST200 terminal that provides the flexibility of having a fully integrated system into any type of vehicle for safe hands-free use.

Configuration

The RST200 is installed with intelligent firmware that enables the unit to be configured either remotely using SMS or locally when connected to the log port of the terminal. This is ideal for remote parameter changes, diagnostics and configuration.

Installation

The RST200 can be deployed for various applications. Selecting an appropriate antenna and antenna cable for the installation is very important for optimum performance. Mounting brackets, configuration CD and international plug pack are all included with the terminal.
